Stem cell hair treatments take the benefits of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) hair treatment to the next level, offering an additional non-surgical hair restoration alternative for clients in the early stages of hair loss, or clients who don’t want the expense or downtime that comes with hair transplant surgery.
What is Stem Cell Hair Treatment?
Stem cell therapy is an innovative new hair restoration modality that utilizes
amniotic fluid or tissue.
A fetus in the womb is surrounded by amniotic fluid or tissue, which contains
stem cells and protects the growing fetus. This tissue contains extracellular
matrix proteins, growth factors, cytokines and other specialty proteins that
have been shown to activate and augment the body’s own natural healing
process.
Amniotic tissue has become an effective component of hair loss treatments in recent years due to its strong ability to help with hair regrowth. It is used in tandem with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) hair treatment to naturally encourage the growth of thicker, stronger, healthier hair.
All amniotic fluid used in our stem cell hair treatments have been donated by new mothers for use in science and medicine.
From Healing to Hair Growth
PRP and stem cell therapy were originally used to speed up the healing process in patients with injuries. Stem cell therapy has been used in various medical applications, from nerve wraps to ligament and tendon repairs.
In recent years, medical scientists have discovered other areas where stem cells from amniotic tissue can be used as a naturally regenerative source of cellular building-blocks, rich in cytokines and growth factors. Stimulating hair growth is one of those areas that stem cell therapy has proven successful.
Stem cell hair treatment can be an effective option for both men and women who want to avoid surgery or who are not candidates for traditional hair restoration. Stem cell therapy:
1. Reduces and reverses hair miniaturization
2. Minimizes additional hair loss
Understanding how stem cell hair treatment helps begins with knowing the factors that lead to hair loss. These include:
Decreased blood supply to hair follicles, or ischemia, which causes a slow decrease in their function. This can come from aging, genetics, effects of DHT, stress or autoimmune disease.
Inflammation
Stem cell therapy helps to regenerate hair by generating regrowth of blood vessels, revascularizing the hair follicles. The stem cells found in amniotic tissue are also a natural anti-inflammatory.
our non-surgical stem cell therapy takes about an hour. The procedure goes hand in hand with our platelet-rich plasma (PRP) hair treatment.
We begin by drawing a small amount of blood, which is then spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelets and growth factors in the blood. Meanwhile, the scalp is disinfected, a topical numbing cream is applied, and microneedling is performed using a 0.5mm – 0.75mm dermaroller.
Once the platelets and growth factors are separated, the platelets are mixed with high-quality stem cells. The resulting mixture of stem cells and PRP, rich in concentrated growth cells, is then injected using a very small needle into the thinning area of the client’s scalp.
The procedure works by slowing down hair loss within a matter of weeks. Once the shedding is reduced, hair growth will take over. Every patient is unique, and regrowth results can take as long as 9 months to 1 year.
